Born in London in 1966, Sam Orlando Miller spent his formative years working at the benches in the family silversmithing workshop. Growing up with silver created a life-long connection to the lustrous, precious metal, and its reflections. In this atmosphere of trade and tradition, making and drawing became his primary forms of expression. Art provided freedom, and an an escape from restrictions. In 1987, he graduated in Fine Art from Falmouth School of Art, working fluently between both 2 and 3-dimensional forms. In 2002, he and his wife, photographer Helen Miller, moved to central Italy. Here, in a remote landscape, where manufacturing and art were closely entwined, the first Untitled Mirrors were made. Hedge Gallery, San Francisco, was the first to exhibit Miller’s work. An on-going document of his creative process, including his painting and drawing, continues to be photographed by Helen, now forming part of the Miller’s extensive archive. In 2015 they relocated their studios to NE Spain. Sam Orlando Miller’s work is held in private collections throughout the world.
